DIY Laundry Soap Recipe – Quick & Easy!

DIY Laundry Soap Recipe

Make Your Own Laundry Soap!

I always like to try my hand at making my own version of products from time to time, especially if I am able to reduce the amount of chemical exposure to my family.

Well, today I'm sharing with you a quick and easy DIY laundry soap recipe & tutorial that I have used over the years.  The best part is that you can put this laundry soap together in under fifteen minutes!  Another added bonus is that you'll only need 3 ingredients (I add essential oil, so for me it's 4 ingredients although it is optional.)

What You Will Need:

To make your own laundry soap, you'll need the following items:

  • 1 cup - Borax Laundry Booster
  • 1 cup - Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
  • 1 - 4 oz. Kirk's Castile Bar Soa, grated
  • 20-30 drops of favorite essential oil - I used lavender!

Since the Kirk's Castile Soap comes in a 3-pack, if you want to make a larger batch, you can use the following ratio:

  • 1 box - Borax Laundry Booster
  • 1 box - Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
  • 3 - 4 oz. Kirk's Castile Bar Soap, grated

Making a full batch, as listed, will last you for several months.  I like to make smaller batches and switch up the essential oils between the lavender, lemongrass and orange.

Note:  Even though it's more physical work to hand grate the bars of soap, I found using the food processor doesn't lend the same results.  I suppose it all depends on the capability of the processor, it's just not a preference for me. The pieces come out larger with a food processor and you definitely want the soap pieces small enough to dissolve.

We go through more of this homemade laundry soap simply because we're a larger family, however this soap will last you a while and in turn will save you lots of money!
